Celtique Energie 'scaled back' drilling of Fernhurst - DON'T BE FOOLED!!

Many of you will have seen recent media reports that Celtique have scaled back their application to drill in Fernhurst and that somehow we have "won".

Celtique have said that this phase of exploratory drill will no longer involve horizontal drilling or require the use of hydraulic fracturing.

Celtique is desperate to get its foot in the door of the National Park.  If this application is granted, you can be sure that they will apply for further permissions to drill horizontally and to undertake some form of "well stimulation" (aka Fracking).  It is entirely possible that they will seek these permissions from the Environment Agency rather than seek planning consent from the South Downs National Park Authority.

Their current application makes it clear that they intend to appraise geological strata where they hope to find shale gas and oil. If they find it, they will want to frack.

The changes Celtique have made to the application make no material difference to the adverse impacts that this development will have, and does not change their ultimate goal.  It is a cynical ploy by Celtique to game the planning system by "salami slicing".

Frack Free Fernhurst will very shortly be publishing our analysis of the additional information provided to the SDNPA and we will provide guidance on how and why you should submit further objections.
